It is ridiculous but yes as Costics suggested, they were most likely told to stop trading after the ASX was informed about the true situation in connection with that oil column.

Were there some insiders who managed to get their shares away in time?

If these are facts, then I would expect an inquiry at least by ASIC. Penalties to be applied where applicable.
