It is a little gratuitous and they've probably overdone it here with this announcement having very little more than the last update, but if they're going to err one way or the other, it's better to keep us overinformed than sitting around in the dark wondering what's going on.
Most likely they just want an excuse to reiterate the story because it's a very good story!
