I work as a consultant representing big developers - getthing them through the red tape and obtaining approvals etc. We deal with everyone from a guy building a few residential units to companies building mines and quarries worth billions.

In my line of work (and in many many many others) you make a promise, agree to something, tell someone what you'll do you had better god damn do it or else they'll have your balls on a platter.

In my job, I'm playing with other people's money, their investment and their livelyhoods (if that quarry doesn't get its next approval 40 guys could be out of work)...

Why does management here see themselves as anything different? Yes, its a speccy, yes there is risk, but the risk should come from the genuine risk in the project, not from management....

Wish I'd never bought in really - retain a small holding and waiting for that news its all been worthwhile!
