The French colonial governance was particularly cruel lisping duck. They tortured their captives and had them confined in squalid, putrid and agonistic cages and cells. e.g. Literally stacked the cramped one man cages so the human effluent and bile gravitated from the top to the bottom through the cages and over the victims.
