Mr Joyce keeps repeating that QAN has 'taken close to half a million bookings in the past two weeks'.
But in calendar 2019, there were according to the Federal Government's BITRE, 61.36 million domestic air passenger trips.
If we assume in that year QAN had a 65 per cent market share, that's about 40 million QAN Group passenger trips.
This is equal to 760,000 trips a week.
Even if we divide it by two, asssuming conservatively that every booking is for a return trip, that's 380,000 bookings a week. (IT won't be totally accurate, because some bookings are for multi sectors such as SYD to Brisbane, and then Brisbane to Mt Isa).
So while far better than during lockdowns, demand may still be quite soft, especially given one would think many of the bookings being crowed about are for the busy Christmas and December/January annual and school holiday peaks when the world and his wife want to travel. "They' can't go to bogan Bali or many other favoured locations overseas, so with that it'd be rational to expect domestic bookings to have hugely risen.
