What's going to happen in a 100years when there is no Armageddon.
I'm pretty sure they will find a way through this. If one is interested in the truth associated with this 1914 prophecy, a prophecy which supports the entire foundation of Jehovah Witness belief, then you will find a mess of contradictions, clueless assumptions and a kind of spirit of the age attempt to make sense of a fervour that took hold of Christianity.
All these American religions were born of a period known as, The Great Expectation, that became The Great Disappointment. Nelson Barbour was influenced by William Miller and Barbour in turn became associated with Charles Russell who took Barbour's eschatological timeline which included a range of year dates from about the mid 1800s. Russell accepted these, tangled up some very strange Pyramid calculations into the mix and declared unequivocally that 1914 would mark the end, not the beginning.
Russell used 360 day years and in calculating them back into 365 day years he ended up in the 1800s. When this didn't pan out, later authority figures just used years and came up with 1914.
In any case the starting point for these prophecies has been shown to be in error, so it's error upon error upon error, but having committed everything to this date the GB just can't let it go. It has to be justified over and over with ever changing, less believable and tortured definitions of what a generation is.
To the credit of many members of this church, large groups of believers walked away from this belief system in the early days, while others just rusted on and accepted what they were told. They are the Jehovah Witness today.
The history of the three major religions formed in the US is riven with the most un-Christian beliefs and backtracking and contrdictions that have been papered over and still these religions are thriving, so 100 years without any Armageddon will mean little to them. They have marketing people who will find a way of putting square pegs into round holes.
