I am sure the 2009 collapse had nothing to do with the GFC and global recession, it was just due to the introduction of futures trading... Strangely all other commodities collapsed during this period as well.
The 2016 era was a traditional mining cycle in which producers, including low cost producers, significant increased supply resulting in a glut.
Low cost producers haven't increased supply this time around. If the IO price only just made it to $50 then, it's logically going to be a struggle now, especially in an era of global infrastructure spending.
