I started our SMSF 17 years ago (WOW, that long ago).
For me, as the saying goes "it has been the best thing since sliced bread" Started in the accumulation phase, now in the pension phase.....no tax....great!
You will get a lot of good advice on this forum, so I will just make one comment.
To operate a SMSF successfully one has to be meticulous, eg: record transactios as and when they occur. A SMSF is not something one only needs to attend to once a year. I have friend who got himself in a lot of trouble by neglecting his fund duties. He even didnt bother to pay himself a pension.
