I believe this is just market makers providing liquidity and trying to profit from the spread. Have you ever been holding shares and the price stalls like it has with IOU and thought, "This isn't going anywhere, I'll just sell". Then the next day or so you check the share price of that company and it's all of a sudden gone up and then you kick yourself for selling? There's every chance you sold into market makers buying and selling to each other and thrown off the volume by adding your shares. That additional volume changes the way the algorithm works and can push the share price up if only temporarily.
I don't believe there's a lot of real buying and selling going on at the moment. Potentially a few small buy and sells by retail.
