You should go an do your research on square again. They have evolved.
They do offer bespoke pricing for > $250k and their terminal fleet seems far more advanced than Tyro's. Besides the dongle they now also do a standard(*) full screen terminal and a all in one POS terminal. Standard(*), to my understanding isn't that comparable with Tyro as the POS will also be embedded on the square terminal.
From what I remember, square is building a all in one closed ecosystem where they bring merchant and cardholder together, which explains why they acquired (or trying to) Afterpay.
In a similar strategy explanation, Tyro can be seen as an independent vendor that builds an ecosystem of POSes to serve a market segment.
I do remember Square trying to integrate with other POS systems but that was rejected by the POS community at the time. There was some fear they would try to get the POS customers and then sell the square POS. (this is from about 3 years ago now)
