You only have to look at current the global investment into battery factories and rapid transition to EV's to reliase that there is now a long term global commitment towards EV's via lithium battery technology.
It presently makes sense for long haul transport to explore the hydrogen option due to its rapid refueling ability and need to travel long distances fast and under load.
However, like the ICE... advancements in range, charge time and increased motor efficiency will rapid.
There is continuted RnD into high density batteries, capacitor technology plus more efficient motors. Todays EV's will seem like a model T ford 15 years from now.
Who knows.....our grand kids may never know what its like to actually drive or own a car...
