From what I can deduce, someone had built up a large short position in gold a few weeks ago. Open positions rose sharply. Once gold reached the 1870’s this position became uncomfortable. These holders started selling last week massive contracts and caught the market by surprise. One assumes that they have been covering their shorts as open interest has fallen. It’s just another dump and rinse.
