I think its called sobering up. Stimulus, covid et al created all sorts of bubbles - BNPL, Crypto, NFT's, Stocks, Real Estate etc. etc. Now with inflation, potential interest rates coming, and a general WTF has the last 2 years been about - the market is waking up and all these bubbles will burst, in no particular order. Perhaps BNPL was the first domino to fall. Why? Low hanging fruit. Whole industry is based on mostly under 35s buying things they don't need with money they don't have (and now have less of due to the inflation bogeyman coming) - that's not sustainable no matter which way you slice and dice it. Maybe not so cool to zip everything after all.
Here's an idea, try using cash or your debit card. Don't have the money? Wait until you get paid. Can't be that hard?
