molonski, no my parents did not enjoy using the cane, and dad used the cane only when necessary, which was not that often, as it was very effective,as i realised that not only did it hurt, but that in EVERY instance i deserved it and dad was always fair and just and i felt that it hurt him as much as me. consequently i rarely did the same wrong thihg twice !! on the other hand mum never used the cane, occasionally a slap, but usually a stern 'telling off' which always had the effect of making me think '.. í've'got away with this one'', and i would cunningly play the game and make the appropriate faces to signal contrition or shame. when i look back i realise that dad had 80% of the influence on me in instilling honest and respectful values and the courage to stand up for my values and beliefs....i am disgusted by the behaviour of most children these days, they are a product of their misguided 'no real punishment' parents who look for guidance from academics and the g-men. i believe adhd is a made up condition in most cases to excuse bad parents. ....maybe controversial, but MY beliefs....on the way.
