One's ignorance is not dependent on that person's social status, or is it dependent on that person's financial success or otherwise.
I am certain there are some rich people who are "ignorant" of the hardship that someone on low wage faces everyday.
A former prime minister, when asked in an interview, was unable to give the price of a certain grocery item, thus in a broad sense that person was ignorant of the prices of some grocery items.
I would say the average "common man" is too preoccupied with the daily chore of earning a living to support his family to be bothered or has the luxury of the peace of mind to want to discuss those topics that some might find "important".
