Although Grahod is referring to his experience with returning to work in the construction industry, the same thing sadly applies to a lot of people.
Education or lack off, proffession or being grouped into a particular socio economic group is no indication to how open a person's mind is to searching for futher knowledge and understanding.
I know of highly qualified successful people who struggle as much as an uneducated person in an unskilled job would in holding a conversation or having informed views on subjects that are away from their main area of interest.
These people simply have no desire or interest to look past a news headline and some even don't even look that far.
