recycling batteries is a lot cheaper than mining and sourcing for raw materials, its been predicted that in around 25 years majority of materials needed for battery production will be from recycling ones, google things like 'redwood, tesla and closed loop' and you'll find some interesting inside and numbers.
I cant imagine anyone keen driving around with a 600 to 800 bar pressurized hydrogen tank in their car, to me that sounds like a rather potent bomb on wheels.
