Thank you NBD. That is sooo interesting. When I was a kid Mum always had a ginger beer plant on the windowsill and she always made ginger beer. I just remember her feeding it with a teaspoon of sugar.
Many years later I tried to make ginger beer and the only recipe which we found was one using bakers yeast. Well many of the bottles popped during the night, spilling a lot but in the end it tasted awful, just so yeasty.
So one day I must try something like this. If anyone has experience of a ginger beer plant, I would love to know. I think it is just the grated ginger and sugar=the mother?
