"This should be so bloody easy to fix, here on Oz."

hmmmm - simple is not the same as easy

IMO - there are some ? different systems or system changes that Oz 'could' have -

but, I can't see at this point how we will ever have - because all of these things require quite radical changes - and, there's at least 3 problems

    1. the jelly is set - and, it is loath to change

    2. in the jelly - there are massive vested interests - even on their better days or if you get them in weak moments on the second bottle of red - when they wake - the vested interests reign supreme - self interest

    3. the entire nation is very very conservative - many nations are - Oz is right up there with them.

If one looks at the record of referendums in Oz ---------- the evidence is as solid as concrete - Ozzies are absolutely a 'no change society'.

    I think there's a few reasons for that ----

    1. we are naturally conservative

    2. we are a fearful people

    3. our 'system' of making decisions -------------- one puts up a question on a referendum - then, you get the 'for change argument' ----------- BUT - we MUST have opposition - it's our system - so - we get the 'no change argument' - and, that's always a fear thing ------------ and as soon as you get a fear based argument --------------- Ozzies run a mile

nothing scares an Ozzie more than change

hence - we are stuck with some dumb way way way way way out of date English system - which was better suited to 1821 than it is 2021
