I'm not sure about what's "normal" for a trading halt on the ASX, but the timing of its initiation and lack of a pre-opening announcement seems odd.
I wonder if one possible explanation could be that the news involves US or European interests and ASM don't want to drop that information on Sunday night or in the wee hours of Monday morning? Just a thought and completely idle speculation.
