This to me is very very good news. I know this new director very well (from a previous life). He is a person of unparalleled ethics, has a depth of understanding of equity markets second to none, and is hugely practical, and takes no bullshit. He is also a great analyst. Now he is an insider, I have no doubt he will be using his powers as a director to verify and confirm everything that has not been available to him as a shareholder alone. If there is one thing that would make me buy another single share in this company it would be John's appointment. Especially as this is backed by a personal stake that is greater than 5% - which under the Corporations Act is sufficient to trigger an EGM. I have no doubt that John will use this stake to trigger a resolution if he is anything less than happy with the investment rationale for this company.
