It's depressing to see that, as soon as a top corporate position becomes available, the knee-jerk reaction of some is to immediately recommend that a discarded political hack be parachuted into the job.
These ex-politicos have exactly the wrong skill set for running a modern listed corporation, imo. They tend to be adept at deception, obfuscation, deflection, denial and to have a penchant for self-promotion and self-preservation above all else. They are the very opposite of team players and have usually, if not always, failed spectacularly at their political career and been comprehensively rejected by party and/or the electorate
Their usefulness on a board is arguable but I suppose they can be useful occasionally at cocktail parties or for greasing the occasional political or bureaucratic wheel, but not much else...
FMG needs a top level, tech-savvy, internationally respected and capable CEO - nothing less will do and an ex politician would be an insult to the market...
