One cost that WOW could have eliminated or vastly reduced was having supermarket staff at entrances checking (in Victoria) to see if shoppers had linked to the QR code.
This was (and continues to be) an example of State government overreach. It has not 'protected the community' from rising mental illness or the many other huge costs of this mindless panic exhibited since March 2020.
Effectively WOW asked its staff to police this government requirement, but State governments never paid WOW or other retailers to do this.
Just as we do with influenza and sadly other cases of death like the road toll, we have to learn to live with these novel coronaviruses.
