To your two questions: Do not know and unsure.Unsure your definition of mining. There is new tech in the refining end to LiOH. Is called the Outotec Process. Includes pressure leaching versus roasting making less energy intensive (lower Op cost). "They" reckon improves Li recovery from 70-80% upto 90%, and hence (theirs not mine) will enable lower grades to be processed and longer mine life.-------
The irony is: that 50km2 hole in the middle of Core's tenement or which now surrounds a new (as of Dec 8) tenement is being explored in JV between Challenger Metals and Lithium Australia NL. And Lithium Aus has the IP/patent/rights to/or whatever to this or very similar process. They have a pilot plant in Queensland in some stage of construction/operation.As Elmer J Fudd says about Bugsy Bunny "that little pesky neighbour".
