I very much doubt Glencore would be interested in a takeover. My thoughts on their strategic stake all those years ago was to secure a large percentage of the offtake for the life of the mine, without further capital injection or financial risk. As possibly the largest commodity trader they still make their margins on all the metal they buy, thus still being able to influence supply to the markets. The same goes for Nyrstar. They’re more in the business of smelting and trading than mining. I’d be inclined to look towards large base metal miners in the northern hemisphere with plenty of experience.
