am i right in thinking antivaxxers and those who promote “alternative” treatments for covid-19 such as ivermectin are little more than bluster, dishonesty and hot air?

those promoting ivermectin as treatment can’t even use the ‘special knowledge’ they imply they have to convince the TGA to authorize use of the popular animal dewormer.

did anyone with this ‘special knowledge’ actually contact TGA to pass it on. To show the TGA the error of its ways.

because the way the people with ‘special knowledge’ having been banging on about it, the casual observer such as myself could be forgiven for thinking the regulator must be close to authorising its use.

yet here we have the TGA warning people against taking Ivermectin to treat covid-19, according to a report on ABCNews app today.

The TGA “also took the opportunity to again tell people not to use the medication as a way to treat or prevent COVID,it said”.

“”It is very dangerous to take large doses of ivermectin and there is insufficient evidence to validate its safe and effective use for COVID-19," it said.

”The drug's manufacturer, Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD), has also urged people not to use it to treat COVID-19.“

””[There is] no scientific basis for a potential therapeutic effect against COVID-19 from pre-clinical studies," it said.

“"[There is] no meaningful evidence for clinical activity or clinical efficacy in patients with COVID-19 disease, and a concerning lack of safety data in the majority of studies."”

Bellcurve: these statements seem quite definitive to me. The manufacturer usually could be accused as a vested interest of wanting to sell more product but certainly not in this case.

so, those with this ‘special knowledge’ shall we say have somewhat overplayed their hand it seems. They might as well have been whistling dixie for all the use they’ve been.
