If you ever watch the beginning of the day, you will see that if you place your sell order under the other sell orders, you in effect get in line to be the first seller off the rank.
Nothing more nothing less. If you place your buy order above the rest of the orders, you are guaranteeing you are the first buyer in the line. Your buy or sell price will be dependent on who is prepared to sell or buy into your order.
