“I make no apology whatsoever for taking a tough stand and holding a gun to Telstra’s head nor would I apologize if Sol were still there and I pulled the trigger nor do I apologize for trying to mulct the TLS shareholders (they should have known better it was in the prospectus and anyhow they should be more benevolent in the public interest) nor do I apologize for the release of confidential competitive sensitive information on TLS nor do I apologize for my about face FTN to FTH which has jumped from $5 billion to $42billion switch calculated on the back of an envelope. – all part of an investment led recovery. For all this I/we make no apology whatsoever – period!! “
    Signed Rudd/Conroy.
I make no apologies whatsoever to Ruddophiles; he surely has swallowed a repeating cd with only four words on it - “make no apologies whatsoever” oh, yes, “tough stand” as well.
In the past Sol was able to tackle this at a political level somewhat; the board has put itself in a corner where it can’t be seen to even feign a punch. What did it get Sol for his efforts? It certainly hasn’t got this new softly; softly approach very far – if fact it’s gone backwards as reflected by the share price.
The issue is multifaceted. There are commercial and political considerations. I think we are all agreed on the need for a much better broadband system. It’s just a question of how it is done. If shareholders aren’t more active we are going to see that what was sold to us by Government at a high price being stripped away for a pittance.
The opposition, which was in government at the time of sale, is totally dysfunctional and could not get out of its own way even with a rocket up it’s a---. Barnaby who was most solicitous to get the best price for the sale seems to go spraying the countryside with nonentities (of course it’s good for country folk if one can get TLS assets for peanuts!!).
The TLS board has shown that it is no longer willing to entertain the political fight – perhaps they are right. But why should shareholders hold back?
If there are some 1.4 million individual shareholders it is a powerful lobby. If there is the stomach for this why not create a shareholders’ political group? Why not ask TLS to fund it? It’s pointless waving the flag under the table. It’s pointless not showing the board some support and an alternative to consider. It will certainly be pointless lamenting after the event!
Show enough support and let’s present it to TLS.
A one line entry by individuals on this thread is sufficient.
