what happened over last 2 years is very exceptional circumstances of not knowing where the virus will end up and vaccine was far from coming into the market. Looking forward with normal economical conditions being restored who is best suited to perform.? As you said prior to Covid MFG outperformed indexes easily most of the time. Under normal economical conditions gains will be minimal moving with the economy at normal pace. No more stimulus and government funding. You can get small gains by being selective. There is no tide to lift all the boats. Also the other major disruption we had over last 20 years was the GFC. This was an economical disaster than health. Economical disruption you can handle as long as you are not geared like Australia was in 2007 with 0 debt. Which fund did extremely well during this period from 2010 to March 2020. MFG, that is how with less than 10m it grew to 100B assets under management. It got there by selecting a good mix of portfolio with FAANG stocks. Over the slow growth period we will face over next 10 yrs the game changes completely. There is no point now to look back over last 2 years performance and think next 10 years is going to be same.
