Just my 2 cents on certain people thinking of the so called ‘red tape’ I was close to being a drug rep for medicinal cannabis a few years back, unfortunately I had to turn dr suds proposal down as I didn’t realise the potential benefits back then and needed a reliable income. Funnily enough he put me forward for a different job down the track but that’s a different story. But for those wondering what background work on informing gps/ clinics/ sleep specialists etc may have or if at all has occurred, it started years ago. So it’s not going to be a ‘ooo we listed what do we do’…background knowledge has started spreading for years and I now imagine it’s now being talked about/will be talked about at conferences moving forward on both a national and international stage especially once in human trial results begin to surface.
most prescribers/ gps know the low tolerance rates of cpap machines and unwillingness to even start using it in the first place.
but looking from the other side yes a drug is wonderful but it is also a 2 edged sword in that there are a growing number of younger gps who are more and more against the so called ‘polypharmacy’ approach for patients. Luckily for us most people in the sleep apnoea cohort are in the age bracket where they have been seeing a certain specialist for years and those are the guys and girls that need targeting intially, they are also so happen to be the specialist cohort most likely to be swayed by, whatever is easiest for my patient.
Today was an amazing announcement and I for one am trying to scrap together as much loose change as I can, and trying to convince the wife to sell some of my portfolio of other shares (the ones currently sitting at small losses) to fund this behemoth.
