It might seem trivial, but part of the story of 95% of the English language tins going to China may have been because the Chinese actually like the English language version - it sounds more exotic, and maybe they trust it more than the locally branded tins after all the controversy they've had in this industry in China. As an anecdote, I remember an Italian friend telling me products with English names on them were popular amongst him and his friends in Italy because they sounded exotic and sophisticated, which I found bizarre because that's what I think about products with Italian written on them, such as my coffee machine for example.
