I have managed to get around 14% this calendar year. That is, my portfolio has risen by 14%. The index rose by 13%.
When I come to think of it, a 1% return for the effort I put is hardly worth it.
Therefore, as Buffet, CJ Bogle and a mate of mine says - Just buy the index, sit back and do nothing and one will be head of the game.
However, if I can consistently beat the index by 1% or more and let that compound over time then I am still ahead of the game.
I hope you have all done well above 13% in your portfolios. However, based on the numbers game and probability can say that most here would have lost money.
As someone said, this is a mugs game for the majority.
Be honest with yourself and do a proper measurement of your performance. See what the future will hold if you repeat the same strategy. eg will you blow your money over say 20 years or double and triple it.
