While I think we are still quite some time off from achieving "Brainstorm" (the classic movie with Christopher Walken and Natalie Wood) type of technology where we can record and playback experiences, I do think we could have Akida use external sensors that could train the human brain to interpret new types of sensory input. Maybe even record and playback information to "train" the brain to learn new skills.

One of the examples they use in the video is hearing new types of sounds, but also imagine being able to visualize different wavelengths on the magnetic spectrum (like seeing heat signatures) or using cameras to have eyes in the back of our heads. Also, imagine pain management done through neural stimulation without the need of prescribing addictive drugs. Our senses could be augmented with the various sensors we are using to make today's smart devices.

It's both frightening, yet exciting to see what the future is going to hold for these technologies, but I don't think I'll be around to see it unless someone manages to keep my head around in a jar (à la Futurama).
