It would be good if they were selective. We don't really know how they are doing it yet. I think what you are suggesting would be the way to go especially with thinner reefs like the Burns .
The best scenario would be that they blast waste most likely the footwall side of the reefs and move it to an underground dumping ground somewhere close to the stope. Then a second blast for the ore and only move that above ground.
This frees up the shaft hauling, less labour and thereby reduces the cost of mining. I reckon they are at least planning and possibly experimenting with all these things underground to see what works best for the different reefs and mine locations.
