This would have to be one of the longest threads I've seen on h/c.
Seems to be 2 general themes, some say send them back to where they came from and others more compassionate say to bring them into our country to enjoy all our luxuries at taxpayers expense.
I feel sorry for say elderly british people wanting to come to Australia to be with their kids etc for their latter years but having to wait many years before or if ever being granted their wishes.
Yet these so called refugees/asylum seekers can find the big bucks to hop on the boat for Australian destination.
Also some of them appear to have sat, phones, wonder where they have their laptops stored on board.
There were a few safe countries on the way to australia so why didnt they hop off there ?
Nup,Kevvy will welcome them here with open arms ,food, money and anything else they need.
And now they won't get off the ship moored in Indonesian waters because they want to go to Australia.
Next they will go on a hunger strike or sew up their lips etc.
And what do the Idonesian and Aust govt say, ' we have plenty of patience" what a joke.
The big question is, who will win out.
Looks like Rudd has to make a hard decision that maybe won't please everyone.
Of course he could just bundle them all up and fly them back to where they came from.
Can just imagine the uproar from the "goody two shoes groups
imo,Indonesia should take them all as they were found in their waters.
We have people waiting in long queues for medical/hospital treatment and yet these boat people will be given the equivalent of a gold card.
Rudds honeymoon is well and truly over.
Even his smooth political Ruddspeak appears not to be so effective now.
My guess is that Rudd will bring them to aust territory for processing etc.
