It is interesting today to note that Indonesia has banned exports of thermal coal (the major supplier to our Huntly Power Station) due to concerns over low supplies for their own domestic power plants. The South East Asian country is the world's biggest exporter of thermal coal, exporting around 400 million tons in 2020. Surely this must reflect in the domestic demand in NZ for thermal coal. Combined with the worldwide demand for coking coal the potential for this resource is undimmed.
