As you note "communism" of a different flavous has worked well for the Chinese. Also in vietnam despite being left as a toxic bombed out wasteland by the USA --- particularly after the introduction of "doi moi " it must be said. Cambodia too is now one of the "tiger economies of Asia --- also theoretically "communist". Singapore under the People's Action Party of Lee Kwan Yew, although nominally not "communist" arrived in power "on the back of the communist tiger" as they say in Asia and implemented what are largely socialist style policies. Lee was smart enough to see that if he didn't jail his communist brothers in arms, the Western powers, particularly the USA & Britain would do everything in their (considerable) power to crush them. Today Singapore is poster boy for what can come after a popular (socialist) revolutionary change. It was also the model followed by Deng Wiao Ping in his great opening to the West. So just because Russia's revolution derailed doesn't mean that socialism of some sort can't work out very well --- if left alone by ill intentioned hostile actors. Russia's revolution was more a coup d'etat and did not necessarily have the support of the Russian masses at the time (Kerensky's ill fated government for example). And Russia's system was Stalinist more than socialist. Lenin's dying words were apparently something along the lines of "don't let Stalin take control". Russia at the tile was dealing with WW1 and its the aftermath. I'm not personally a communist, but where I now live there are many euro-communists. Many town halls and provincial politicians are "communist" (or so they claim). They are just like another political party, no more, no lee. So while I do understand your feelings particularly since they stem from terrible family experiences dating from an era of butchers (don't let that era come back, please God), better to keep an open mind and not automatically throw out the baby because the bath water has been dirty in some instances (that is, unfortunately, the nature of all revolutions --- of the left and of the right) Happy peaceful and prosperous 2022 to you and to all ---- capitalist, communist or simple "don't know: don't care"zzzzz!!!
