I thought wash sales were mostly end of financial year where you buy and sell your shares for the same amount. You sell to crystalise the loss and re-buy because you still want to continue holding. I would describe @Botley's transaction as pretty clever trading. He sold on a high and bought on a ST low. Don't confuse spending the same amount of money (at a lower price for more shares) with buying at the same share price (the same amount of shares).
