I don't get how aluminium ions (atomic number of 13), or even worse, tetrachloroaluminate ions (Al is 13 and Cl is 17, so 13 + (4 x 17) = each anion has 81 protons), can compete with lithium ions (atomic number of 3 (i.e. 3 protons)) for charge density. It just seems bizarre.
