Agreed, coal power is cheap. We have had climate changes before but this is the first time humans have had the technology to measure the cause and effects which is one thing but then to take it to the extreme and say it's permanent non-reversable etc etc is a tall order. Modelling is one thing but to then to make a prediction about the future based on models is a big reach IMO. It's so easy for people to forget that there was once ice in the temperate zones and also recently data was shown that the ozone layer had shrinked over the south pole see link http://www.livescience.com/environment/071003-ozone-hole-shrinks.html - the risks of doing nothing are not worth it but we need measured change and certainly the ETS is a market maker not an Co2 reducer. In VIC they are buidling a massive de-salination plant that will burn fossil fuels but do you not build it and risk running out of water. They should have damned the Mitchell river years ago but governments are not rational. So there is no alternative but to tax heavy ommitters of Co2...sad but is that the best we can do and why rush just so we can look good in Copenhagen? Denmark has wind powered machines out in the sea which is interesting but very expensive, so we have to pay for what a tax that isn't forcing companies to do anything but still gives them the excuse to bump up our power/gas bills 50-100%. My solution, get insulation, fill-in openplan doorways, get a water tank, seal all windows and doors (wait a bit until they get the solar right) then do that, ride ya bike. It's up to us to reduce our reliance on this system because then we can sit back and laugh at their unproven theories and policy mis-management.
