The State Government:
• Does not support uranium mining in Western Australia
and will not approve any new uranium proposals.
• Would prefer that no uranium is mined in the State,
but will honour the four uranium projects which
received State Ministerial approval under the
previous Government.
• Will not consider Commonwealth decisions for the
four projects, such as export approvals and approvals
under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity
Conservation Act 1999 (Cth), as they are a matter for
the Commonwealth Government.
• Recognises that exploration for minerals of all
kinds is vital to jobs and economic growth in
Western Australia. It is not possible to ban the
discovery of uranium through exploration, as
uranium may be found unintentionally when
exploring for other minerals.
• Will not change the regulatory system for minerals
exploration
