The output from the Hydrogen - Boron fusion is 3 alpha particles (i.e Helium nuclei) and are +ve charged - this makes it a lot easier to contain than neutrons which are part of other fusion reactions and damage the surrounding vessel. Charged particles can be contained by magnets and electro-statics and to generate electricity directly use electro-hydro dynamics (see HERE). Still needs enormous power using chirped lasers to inertially drive a proton (ionized hydrogen atom) into the Boron but evidently their is a cascade effect to drive the process. Cant see it challenging SMR's for many years yet.
