I think the 'left field event' is right under our noses and it's playing out 'perfectly' for an economic crash. What other event could cause so many business closures, mass unemployment, a housing bubble just waiting for a pin, travel restrictions across borders, staff shortages, supply shortages including food, fuel additives and necessary manufacturing materials? It's taken 2 years, but I believe it's now gaining major momentum.
