The major parties love compulsory voting.
ALP/LNP/Greens rake in millions at each election.
And they get funding based on each primary vote so good luck trying to get them to change it.
It will cause a period of instability but unless and until sufficient numbers of people vote against the major parties and start electing independent candidates then it will not and can not change.
