I’m an ‘in between’ when it comes to the demographics you speak of ....was just having a bit of a crack because there are plenty of posters here (at the younger end of the age demographic from what I can gather) who claim to have made a lot of money and think they’re genius investors because they’ve ridden a once in a generation wave of returns (meme stocks,crypto/BNPL etc) and are forever slagging off Hamish for his backward investment philosophies.
I’m well aware that the crypto millionaires flaunting their ‘wealth’ on social media - you know - leaning on sports cars smoking $100 bills and having parties in their beachside mansions - are mostly faking it.
.....but I’m not about to bat for the boomers either .....they’ve had an armchair ride to comfortable wealth if they had some money to begin with and knew how to play the game. The benefits you list are undeniable (but at the same time I’m not sure @Jack1960 has ever actually denied these tailwinds has he ?)
Anyway a lot of the investment styles that have so significantly outperformed Magellan this past year or two are unravelling right now (Cathie Woods ARK Innovation Fund now $71 after being $159 this time last year )
Pity it didn’t happen 12 months ago - Magellan mightn’t be the trainwreck (in sp terms) it currently is.
