Qantas is hurting as a result of its own actions.
Im not sure what the figure is now, but as of May last, Qantas had added 45 new routes. (https://www.qantasnewsroom.com.au/media-releases/qantas-adds-seven-new-routes-and-puts-dreamliner-on-domestic/)
It would be highly probable that most of these routes would be loss making and Qantas only operate on them due to the fear of competition.
Qantas have blown hundreds of millions of taxpayer $$$ in an attempt to minimise the threat of competition.
