In fact the most logical reason for the sale of shares is that under SMSF compliance requirements AVZ is considered a related party to the fund because he is a Director and your fund (SMSF) is not allowed to hold ownership of more than 5% of the funds value in a related party.
These are the rules in Australia and no doubt similar rules apply in the UK.
Due to the SP going up it obviously exceeded the 5% threshold and some shares had to be sold for the fund to remain compliant.
The smarts ones here, if they are interested, can work out the total value of his SMSF if they want.
