The problem is Boeing 737-800s cost so much to operate, being far larger than the SAAB340B turboprops, so any profits REX makes on its rural routes and from contracted flying such as for air ambulances are wiped out.
I can't see how REX will again turn a NPAT unless it completely abandons its larger aircraft flights and returns to just being a small turboprop operator. And by the way, these latter aircraft are elderly. Still safe, of course, but older aircraft cost more per nautical mile/air kilometre to maintain.
