The trouble is we have 'career' politicians rather than people politicians. They are loathed to make decisions without considering the political angle first. Plus they always have an eye on what they will be doing when they leave politics. You end up with enlightened self-interest decision making dressed up as consensus decision making.
The whole political barrel needs to be tipped out and cleaned, on both sides. The minor parties (except the Greens) seem to be the only ones practising people politics.
