In the US, both the Democrats and Republicans are a tad isolationist. The narrative of puppet states is a nonsense.

Personal proclivities aside, Putin is looking too much like a modern day Alexander. I can't see any clear succession plan so try as he might to bring back a 17th Century concept of glory Putin's plan won't work. Without the dear leader, Russia will fragment IMHO.
